CASE STUDY
“From initial meetings through to final payment, communication remained strong and consistent."
"Even when last-minute changes arose, both companies were flexible and responsive - nothing was ever too much to ask.”
When the Equans EDF contract began its demobilisation phase across nuclear sites, the team faced a significant challenge.
They needed to dispose of PPE for around 1,200 staff members responsibly.
Like many large-scale projects, the PPE was branded and made from mixed materials, which meant simply sending it to landfill was not an option.
The disposal process needed to meet strict Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) guidelines, support environmental goals, and protect the company’s brand.
Equans needed a partner who could manage the scale, logistics, and sustainability commitments all-in-one.
Equans partnered with SMI, who worked alongside Race Recycling to deliver the PPE Recycling Scheme.
The process was straightforward:
Throughout the project, SMI maintained clear communication, adapted to last-minute changes, and ensured collections were carried out efficiently.
This ensured a smooth and stress-free process for Equans.
The initiative successfully diverted a large volume of PPE waste from landfill, supporting Equans’ CSR commitments and protecting the environment.
A key member of the Equans EDF contract shared their experience:
“From initial meetings through to final payment, communication remained strong and consistent. Even when last-minute changes arose, both companies were flexible and responsive - nothing was ever too much to ask.”
The collaboration between Equans, SMI, and Race Recycling proved that large-scale PPE disposal can be responsible, efficient, and deliver real benefits for the environment and brand reputation.
Responsible PPE disposal is simple when you have the right partner.
SMI’s PPE and workwear recycling scheme provides secure collection, certified recycling, and safe destruction of branded items.
