By 2030, SMI is setting bold environmental goals to push forward our sustainability efforts. We’re cutting waste, lowering emissions, and increasing our use of renewable energy.
From reducing plastic and improving water efficiency to generating solar power, we’re taking impactful steps to protect the planet and build a cleaner, greener future.
Climate Project: Efficient cookstoves
In a Maharashtra village, 85% of households traditionally use cookstoves that consume large amounts of wood and create smoke. Introducing efficient portable cookstoves made of cast iron has been revolutionary. These stoves use up to 70% less firewood, significantly reducing energy consumption and air pollution.
This transition brings multiple benefits to households and the community:
Climate project: renewable energy
Our climate projects are certified by the Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard, ensuring the highest level of environmental integrity and impact. We support a diverse range of renewable energy initiatives, including wind energy projects in India, China, Indonesia, and Turkey, and solar energy projects in India and China.
Additionally, we invest in hydropower projects in Turkey and Sri Lanka, and biomass projects in India, China, and Thailand. Energy can also be efficiently harnessed from biogas and biomass plants using animal dung or organic residues, contributing to sustainable energy solutions and reducing our carbon footprint.
